[Just that. No polite greeting or anything, sorry.]

Good day, Mr. Mitchell. [ however, adam is sickeningly polite, even mildly cheerful sounding. ]

[Politeness and cheer: that somehow makes this all the fucking worse.]

Yeah, so--tell me more about your sword, mate. Is it really yours?

It didn't start out that way, I suppose. But that was 400 plus years ago.

And was Peter around 400 years ago, or does he just want to hold onto the sword because he fucking can.

I rather suspect it's the latter.

You suspect he's not four hundred years old, or you know? C'mon, mate. Give me something real here, 'cause I found him, and his sword, and it turns out he's an electrocution waiting to happen. And I'm about done with surprises.

Then whose was it? And why does he care so much about holding on to it?

[Never mind that half the reason Peter cares is probably because 1) he doesn't like Adam, and 2) he doesn't appreciate people marching up to him and declaring their intent to take away a sword that's his property by matter of possession. Mitchell asks anyways, because he wants to hear what Adam's got to say about it.]

Peter thinks his abilities entitle him to whatever he pleases. [ a slight sniff. ] The sword was another Samurai's, I merely -- came into its possession. By chance, you see.

[ or by getting the guy killed. same dif, right? ] But why he wants the sword is even simpler than any of that, dear sir.

He wants it because it's mine.

Because it's yours. Yeah, that would have been my guess.

[Without tone, it might sound amicable enough, but it isn't. His encounter with Peter had been less than pleasant.]

Just what are these abilities, that they make him feel so entitled?

It would be easier to list which ones he doesn't possess.

The next rung in human evolution.

Jesus, even your lot likes their dramatics, huh. Is he immortal?

Moreso than you, surely. Than anyone on board, probably.

I know you're much stronger and quicker than any average human. But you aren't one of us-- you aren't evolved.

Which could only mean you're undead.

[He smiles, grimly--it's in his voice, even if it can't be seen.]

And just who gets t' decide what's evolved. What the hell does that mean?

It means that our genetic code has -- mutated, in a sense. Expanded into something much more advanced.

Don't expect anything from me, Adam. Not anymore. Any possible idea of 'friendship' [ can you hear the airquotes ] that you were looking for is gone.

That's an understatement. [ he's rolling his eyes but that's the extent of the feeling behind his words. ] He caught up with me before we even went to Arima.

[ he didn't go to arima, but he doesn't say so, nodding along though he knows he can't be seen. ]

I only wanted what was mine back, Peter. You wouldn't relinquish it, and so I forged a deal. [ which was less to get the sword back and more to see if mitchell would survive the encounter but. that hardly seemed relevant. ]

One that's obviously worked out in your favor.

[ that would be sarcasm, adam. peter doesn't care about all the stupid reasons behind why he hired the guy, all he knows is that it was the wrong move to make if adam was hoping to keep peter around for any significant amount of time. ]
